Doha: Under Ramadan Campaign 1444 AH “Humanity First: Give to Charity”, Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) office in Yemen has launched a Ramadan Iftar project for the benefit of 24,304 people in six governorates, at a total cost of QR 909,091.
The project involves the distribution of 3,472 one-month food parcels, each containing 60 kg of food staples, such as flour, sugar, rice, dates, canned beans, vegetable oil, and salt.
In partnership with Yemen Red Crescent Society, 2,250 food parcels were distributed to displaced/vulnerable families and widows in the governorates of Lahij, Ibb, and Taiz. Final preparations are underway to distribute 750 food parcels in ‘Amran Governorate. QRCS allocated 472 food parcels for mental patients, patients with kidney failure, and orphans at several hospitals and social care organizations.
In Sudan, QRCS’s office inaugurated a Ramadan Iftar project, in the presence of HE Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al Sada, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Sudan, and representatives of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC).
The project is aimed at distributing 3,000 food parcels to vulnerable and poor families in the states of Khartoum, White Nile, North Kordofan, and Northern. Each food parcel contains a variety of basic foodstuffs, such as sugar, flour, dates, oil, tea, rice, and lentils, lasting for more than 20 days.
Dr. Salah Daak, head of QRCS’s office in Sudan, revealed plans to distribute 3,600 additional food parcels this month, raising the total number of food parcels to 6,300.
With the participation of Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Obaidli, Second Secretary at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Lebanon, the personnel of QRCS and the Lebanese Red Cross completed the Ramadan Iftar project, distributing 2,200 food parcels to more than 11,000 people from the refugee and host communities.
QRCS’s office in the West Bank and Al Quds has completed 65% of the Ramadan Iftar project, which involves distributing diverse food parcels to 3,409 poor Palestinian families, or 20,454 beneficiaries, to meet their food needs during the holy month of Ramadan. The $249,408 project is implemented in cooperation with Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
