British Council supports EAC programme

DOHA: The British Council recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Educate A Child (EAC) programme, which was launched in November 2012 to bring quality primary education to millions of out of school children. The partnership is focused on supporting out of school children and providing 

Educate A Child is a global programme launched by H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in November 2012. It aims to significantly reduce the number of children worldwide missing out on their fundamental right to education.  

Working with the full range of partners, including education and civil society, a priority of the project is the reinforcement of sustainable solutions that are appropriate to the local context. Evidence-based advocacy will be used to promote dialogue and to generate and sustain momentum and multi-stakeholder ownership. The MoU was signed at a High-level Strategic Meeting in Doha focused on accelerating progress towards attaining the second Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education by the end of 2015. At the meeting, EAC announced several MoUs and agreements with a range of organisations, including private sector and NGOs. 

Commenting on the event, Peter Upton, Director of British Council Pakistan said: “Working with the Qatar Foundation on this initiative enables us to build on the strength of our global network, on our capacity to design and deliver key solutions to the challenge particularly of girls’ education and together to make a difference where it counts.”

Mary Joy Pigozzi, Director of Educate A Child said: “We are delighted to be working with the British Council because of their rich wealth of experience in bringing primary education to out of school children.
