NEW YORK: Centre and captain John Tavares scored less than four minutes into the game and the New York Islanders never trailed in beating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in an emotional final home opener at Nassau Coliseum, yesterday.
The Islanders swept a home-and-home with the Hurricanes to get their last season on Long Island off to a rollicking start. The Islanders, who are 2-0-0 for the first time since 2007, begin playing in Brooklyn next October after 43 seasons at the Coliseum.
