The gala dinner and community event was attended by Tafawoq’s Joint Steering Committee members: Saad Al Muhannadi, QP’s Director Technical and Chairman of Tafawoq’s Joint Steering Committee;  Ahmad Al Mawlawi, QP’s Director of Administration; Ahmed Al Mulla, QP’s Manager Contracts and Procurement; Abdul Aziz Maarafiya, QP’s Manager Technical Directorate, Project Coordination; Dr Khalid Al Khanji, HBKU Vice President Student Affairs; Rob Sherwin, General Manager, Corporate Affairs; Bader Al Jaidah, Tafawoq’s Development Manager; and Herman Veenhuis, Tafawoq’s Operations Manager.  Also present were Tafawoq’s Working Group Committee members and the 95 project professionals from Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Qatar Shell who have graduated from Tafawoq.

Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Shell have jointly established a partnership to launch and assist in the operation of a regionally recognised Project Management Centre of Excellence in Qatar in November 2011,. This Centre focuses on competence development in project management of capital projects and the associated supply chain. This initiative forms part of QP and Shell’s support for the Qatar National Vision 2030. The name of the Project Management Centre, ‘Tafawoq’, means excellence.

Tafawoq’s training programmes provide the participants with a solid foundation of the principles, processes and practices of project management over the life cycle of a capital investment project to build their competencies in project management.  It uses a blended learning approach comprising around ten weeks of virtual learning supported by coaching sessions, and on the job training, followed by an intense week of face-to-face training using discussions, case studies and role-play, enhancing and embedding the virtual learning.

Minister of Energy and Industry said: “Having 95 graduates on the first year of launching Tafawoq is a key milestone that we should all be proud of. We are delighted to be working with Shell and Hamad Bin Khalifa University on this unique partnership that builds on the efforts of both QP and Shell Project Academy to continuously enhance competence development in project management. It will support the vision of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, to transform Qatar’s hydrocarbon resources into human capital development as envisaged in the Qatar National Vision 2030’

“Given Qatar’s plans to deliver world class projects of diversified nature, both industrial and infrastructural, over the coming decade, I would like to congratulate the graduates for successfully completing these learning modules that help them build their leadership and project management competencies in order to contribute to the sustainable growth of the country,” added Dr Al Sada
