DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has lined up National Day activities.
Ashghal will familiarise its employees, consultants and visitors with Qatari traditions and customs and strengthen their sense of patriotism and belonging, according to a statement.
Ashghal has launched an initiative ‘Qatarna, Our Past and Present’ to create the largest album on the country.
The idea behind the album ‘We Make Our Album’ is to share two photos of Qatar: One from the past and one contemporary photo.
Ashghal staff and students can participate with any two pictures depicting the past and present of any site, building or landscape, or any projects implemented by the authority. They can also participate with the currency, stamps, or anything that embodies Qatar’s culture, heritage and history.
The activity was launched by Abdulla Saad Al Saad, Manager, Public Relations and Communications Department, who was first to submit an entry. Ashghal will recognise the best five entries.
For the first time, Ashghal has set up Heritage Village this year. It is a model of an old  Qatari village with its diverse cultural elements to highlight legacies left behind by parents and grandparents, such as customs, traditions, activities and crafts.
The village at Ashghal headquarters in West Bay extends over a 3,000sqm area to  welcome employees, consultants, customers, students and the general public from December 14 until December 17. It will host a traditional market featuring shops, boutiques, crafts and occupations practised in the past. There will also traditional food shops and henna-painting in addition to a display of traditional tools, pottery, and clothing and a heritage coffee shop.
Ashghal will welcome schools under the ‘Ashghal in the eyes of our children’ initiative for students to visit its headquarters to enhance communication with youngsters and make them aware of their key role in Qatar’s development.
Students will also be briefed on Ashghal’s departments, specialisations, projects and achievements and taken on a tour to Heritage Village.
