Doha, Qatar: Local organising committee has introduced an additional feature to the stadiums hosting the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 matches.

Fans at the stadiums were pleasantly surprised to see that while the matches were on going, important informations were being relayed on large screens in sign language for hearing-impaired football fans.

Dressed like a Qatari, the virtual 3D interpreter translates the announcement on the large screen.

In a video introducing the character, the organising commmittee said, "Meet Bu Hamad, who will be translating the most important information during the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 in sign language on the big screens."

A Virtual Sign Language Interpreter made using 3D technology to simulate realistic signing, Bu Hamad was initially introduced in 2021 by Mada Center - Assistive Technology Center Qatar.

One of the fans at the stadium and a visitor, Jeena said, "Before the opening match some important announcement was being made and in a corner was a 3D-developed Qatari guy who translated it to sign language. I understand the importance of this because of my friend who has hearing disability. I usually explain to her whenever we go out for matches or even movies."

Since FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the country has been taking various initiatives to ensure sports events are accessible tournaments, including those with disabilities.
