Doha: Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) recently joined the other countries in sixth Gulf Joint Cancer Awareness Week under the slogan, ‘This is my decision’.
The awareness week was held under the Gulf Union Against Cancer in co-operation with Gulf Centre for Cancer Control and Prevention. The first week of February was adopted every year as to raise awareness about cancer. in Gulf region.
QCS participated in Gulf Joint Cancer Awareness Week as a member of the higher coordination committee. The awareness activities aimed to fight risk factors to reduce number of cases, encourage early detection to increase recovery rates, and unify media messages in the GCC.
QCS participated in many events and activities, most notably, a unified stand during the opening of the sixth joint Gulf Joint Cancer Awareness Week under the theme “40% prevention, 40% protection”, as well as a motorbike walk and props in the Lusail car cinema in co-operation with Qatar Motorcycle Center (Batabit) and Mawater Center, in addition to a virtual walking challenge.
The Gulf Joint Cancer Awareness Week included the activation of the electronic brochure in all languages to benefit as many as possible, and the launch of many virtual awareness workshops about cancer and promoting healthy lifestyles in the community, also a competition “I’m and I will” for schools and universities students (drawing / short story / educational video),
A virtual workshop for capacity building of cancer awareness promoters was also implemented, in addition to publishing stories of hope for people living with cancer on many platforms and involving them in virtual workshops.
The Gulf Joint Cancer Awareness Week was introduced on all media platforms, social media, QCS’ website, YouTube channel, and road advertisements, in addition to lighting many of the country’s landmark places and monuments in purple.
General M anager of QCS, Mona Ashkanani, emphasized the charity keenness to participate in all events and occasions that achieve its goals in raise awareness about cancer, support people living with cancer, and professional development and scientific research.
“From this standpoint, QCS participated in this event to raise awareness about the risk factors causing cancer and encouraging a healthy lifestyle among all categories of society,” she added.
