Doha: The Cabinet condemned recurring Israeli attacks and violations on Al Aqsa Mosque, the Muslim worshippers inside it and the students in addition to the desecration of the Holy Quran, which is a flagrant defiance of the international law and the international legitimacy-related resolutions and a clear cut negligence of the possible grave repercussions on security and stability of the region.

The Cabinet, at its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, called upon the world community to firmly and urgently intervene to halt the Israeli attacks, violations and disrespect of the Islamic sanctities, the rights of the Palestinian people and Israel’s illegal and illegitimate practices and policies to Judaise the holy city of Al Quds and obscuring its Islamic features and landmarks and its Arab character.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud said that the Cabinet considered following: It reviewed a draft law on control of tobacco and its derivatives,  a draft law amending some provisions of the Law No.8 of 1990 concerning control of foodstuffs fit for human consumption.

The  Cabinet considered a letter of the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) concerning a proposal for establishing the state’s national registry. A memo of the Ministry of Economy and Finance concerning the audited accounts of the Civil and Commercial Court and the Regulatory Court of Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) for the fiscal year ended on 31-12-2011 and a report on the Civil and Commercial Court and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority was also taken up.  The meeting considered approval  for the application of the provisions of the Law No. 24 of 2002 concerning retirement and pensions of the Qataris working with Qatar’s National Cancer Society.

The Cabinet approved Doha’s hosting of the 18th meeting of the Secretaries General of the Shoura and national councils in the GCC states which will open in April, 2014.

A proposal of the Ministry of Justice on forming a joint team work to consider aspects of legal and judicial cooperation within the context of the joint Arab plan between the GCC and each of Jordan and Morocco was discussed. The meeting considered a draft agreement on cooperation in measurement fields between Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and the Saudi Specifications, Measurements and Quality Authority.

The meeting approved a draft agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of financial evasion as related to income tax between Qatar and Hong Kong’s Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China and a draft agreement on air transport between Qatar and Australia.

The Cabinet endorsed an agreement on setting up a joint committee for cooperation between Qatar and Ethiopia, a memorandum of understanding on bilateral consultations between the foreign ministries of Qatar and Ethiopia.

It is worth mentioning that there are two Chinese SARs, the Hong Kong SAR and the Macau SAR, former British and Portuguese dependencies, and which returned to China in 1997 and 1999 pursuant to the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1984 and the Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration of 1987 respectively.
