DOHA: Qatar Fuel Additives Company (Qafac), the leading producer and exporter of Methanol and MTBE in Qatar, has spearheaded the creation of a platform for discussion in the region on MTBE by organising a first-ever Qafac MTBE Workshop: “Clean Fuel, Clean Air,” to be held here on April 23, from 8am to 1pm, at the Sharq Village Hotel, a press statement said yesterday.
The workshop, to be held under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum (QP) H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, will bring together experts on methyl tertiary butyl ether or MTBE – the most widely used oxygenate octane enhancer in petrol.
The speakers at the workshop will include the Vice Chairman of QP’s Board of Directors, Chairman of Qafac and CEO of Ras Gas Company limited Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, the General Manager of Qafac Nasser Jeham Al Kuwari, the Executive Chairman of Wentworth Resources Ltd Robert P McBean, the Executive Director of Asian Clean Fuels Association Clarence Woo, Director General of the European Fuel Oxygenates Association (EFOA) Dr Graeme Wallace and Vice President at Business Development- Asia, Safety, Health & Environment-Asia, AECOM Alex Leon.
The workshop aims to increase awareness about MTBE’s relevance in today’s world, to learn how clean fuel and clean air can be achieved through MTBE; to share expertise, knowledge and experience on the responsible care for handling and using MTBE; and to learn, share and discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by MTBE.
