DOHA: Several workshops have been conducted by the Qatar Foundation (QF)’s Education Development Institute within two months for teacher training.
Throughout the year, QF is working to provide unique training sessions for teachers to encourage professional development and lifelong learning. These workshops are designed to equip educators with the necessary skills and tools to help unlock the potential of their learners.
The Education Development Institute, which falls under QF’s Pre-University Education, is one of the entities that has been tasked with empowering teachers. QF recently signed an agreement with International Baccalaureate (IB) to provide a series of teacher training workshops with the Education Development Institute.
Widely regarded as one of the most popular education systems in the world, the IB is committed to improving access to an IB education across the Middle East. With eleven schools in Qatar offering one or more of its four programmes, the system is becoming increasingly popular in the region.
As part of the partnership, the Education Development Institute hosted 13 IB sessions in January and last month, and has organised an additional 20 workshops for next year. The workshops are developed and delivered by experienced IB educators from Qatar and around the world, and are carefully evaluated against a strict global quality assurance framework.
The seminars are open to teachers from across the country and are taught in both Arabic and English.
Mehdi Benchaabane, IB Workshops Director at the Education Development Institute, said: “The IB Professional Development workshops help educators gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be an effective teacher. By helping to develop young people who are motivated to succeed, these sessions are ultimately serving as a platform to empower teachers to become leaders within the classroom and unlock the potential of their learners.”
The training sessions held earlier this year focused on 3 separate educational programmes: Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Diploma Programme. A number of different topics were discussed over the course of the sessions, including ‘Play-based learning’, ‘Theory of Knowledge’, and ‘The Role of the Coordinator’.
Furthermore, as part of QF’s commitment to teachers, the Education Development Institute is set to host the second annual Teaching and Learning Forum on May 9, at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
The event will serve as a platform, bringing together K-12 teachers from across the country to network, discuss, and collaborate. Additionally, Sir Ken Robinson, an internationally recognised leader in the development of education, creativity and innovation, will be the keynote speaker for the event.
