DOHA: The registration for Arabic Hudad Al Saluki Championship of this year is opened, Al Ghannas Association announced yesterday. Qatari citizens as well as expatriates can participate in the championship.
The registration that started yesterday will conclude this evening. Those interested can register from 4pm to 8pm. The semi-finals of the championship are slated for October 19 and October 20 and final round will be held on November 2.
“This hobby was passed on to us by our forefathers and we have the responsibility to protect it,” said Mansur Al Naimi, Chairman of Hudad Al Saluki Championship. “This is an international hobby especially for Arab and GCC people. Saluki is a dog that was trained by Arab people for hunting,” he added.
“This championship is organised every year in the same season followed by other competitions like Qatar International Falcon and Hunting Festival. And the season of Saluki ends in April with the international championship for Hudad Al Saluki,” said Al Naimi.
The participating Saluki should be Arab and the committee has well-experienced members to differentiate the non-Arab saluki from the Arab one, said Al Naimi.
