DOHA: A gallery of used books will be launched by Katara at the Corniche in Katara Cultural Village next week.
It aims to encourage reading and promote the culture of voluntary and community work, officials have announced.
The gallery will also provide hundreds of free books to the public, reported Al Sharq.
Dr. Khalid Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Director-General, Katara, said the launch of Katara Gallery for used books was part of the responsibility of Katara to preserve culture and literature among the Qatari community.
“The idea of this gallery will be based on donation of used books from the public and after being received by the Katara administration.
“They will be put into the gallery and showcased on Thursdays, Friday and Saturday to whoever who needs to take a book and read it,” he said.
“It is essential that the gallery acquires a large collection of books that will foster the exchange of knowledge and science among people,” Dr Sulaiti added.
Books to feature in the gallery will be on different subjects in different languages and will be exhibited from 4pm to midnight.
Dr. Al Sulaiti called on residents, citizens and institutions to donate used books by contacting Katara on telephone No. 66644031 or delivering books at the Cultural Village headquarters in building No. 22.
