DOHA: Kulluna, the national health and safety awareness campaign, will start its next course for child passenger safety technicians on October 26.
The four-day course combines classroom instruction, indoor and outdoor hands-on activities, skills assessments with car seats and vehicles, and a community safety seat check-up.
Interested candidates could apply for the course online through www.kulluna.qa
The course and all official written documentation and correspondence for certification is in English.
To become a nationally certified child passenger safety technician, the applicant should be 18 or above and pass the certification course. Successful completion of the course certifies a technician for two years.
As majority of parents misuse their child restraints, such courses are held by Kulluna.
During the course, the instructor will test candidates with three written, open-book quizzes.
‘Open-book’ means that candidates are encouraged to use technician guide while taking a quiz. To pass the combined quizzes, they must answer at least 42 out of 50 questions correctly, which means a passing score of 84 percent or above.
Instructors will also test their skills with three hands-on assessments, and will award a grade of pass or fail following each assessment.
If a candidate fails any of the assessments, they will be notified during the course and may continue attending the class as an observer, but only at the lead instructor’s discretion.
The check-up event is also graded as pass or fail. To pass it, candidates must successfully demonstrate skills learned during the course, the ability to follow event procedures and instructions, proper use and installation of child restraints and safety belts, and the ability to teach parents and caregivers how to protect their family on the road.
A technician could share the knowledge through activities, including community presentations, child safety seat checks where parents and caregivers receive education and hands-on assistance in the proper use of child restraint systems and seat belts.
Activities of Kulluna are conducted in cooperation with medical institutions and educational establishments under the umbrella of Hamad Medical Corporation and coordinated by Hamad International Training Centre. Activities take many forms as its messages need to reach as wide an audience as possible. The Peninsula
