ACAPULCO: A German university student was wounded in southern Mexico when police searching for a gang fired at a van carrying the young man, authorities said yesterday.
The 25-year-old student was in stable condition in a Mexico City hospital following late Sunday’s shooting in Chilpancingo. The van was carrying students from the Monterrey Institute of Technology when it ignored a checkpoint set up by a state police anti-kidnap unit following clashes with a gang, prosecutors said.
“(The van) didn’t stop, and some agents used their firearms, because a noise similar to a gunshot was immediately heard,” the Guerrero state government said.
