Doha, Qatar: Members of the Shura Council have praised the speech delivered by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the opening of the Council’s 55th annual session, highlighting its comprehensive approach to national priorities, the resilience of the Qatari people, the protection of national sovereignty and investment in human development.

Speaking to The Peninsula, the members said the Amir’s speech provided important guidance for the country’s next phase, emphasising the need to maintain domestic stability, strengthen diplomatic engagement, diversify the economy and sustain Qatar’s development amid regional and international challenges.

H H the Amir patronised the inauguration of the second ordinary session of the second legislative term, corresponding to the 55th annual session of the Shura Council, held yesterday at the Council’s headquarters. His Highness delivered a speech outlining key national priorities and the country’s approach to addressing current challenges while advancing its development goals.

Member of the Shura Council H E Saad bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Misnad, described the address as comprehensive and profound in its meaning, covering both external developments affecting the country and domestic policy issues of importance to Qatar and its citizens.

“The Amir’s speech today was comprehensive and profound in its meaning. He spoke about the external events the country has experienced, as well as domestic policy and many issues of importance to the nation and its citizens,” said Al-Misnad.

He said the Amir had commended the solidarity of the Qatari people and the performance of the country’s security agencies during the preceding period. He also highlighted the key themes of protecting national sovereignty, maintaining an open diplomatic approach, preserving domestic stability, diversifying the economy and investing in human resources.

“Protecting sovereignty and maintaining open diplomacy remain among our key priorities. Our positions do not change regardless of changing circumstances. We also enjoy domestic stability and we must preserve it,” he said.

Al-Misnad added that economic diversification and investment in human resources were important priorities that the Shura Council supported through its legislative and parliamentary work. Referring to Qatar’s role in supplying energy to international markets, he said the country remained committed to meeting global demand for natural gas while seeking solutions to help ensure reliable supplies.

“Qatar is known as a gas exporter, and we continue in this direction. We are always seeking solutions to supply the world with natural gas and contribute to stability in economic growth,” he said.

Member of the Shura Council H E Dr Ahmed bin Hamad bin Ahmed Al-Hassan Al-Mohannadi, said Qatar would continue addressing challenges while working closely with the government under the leadership of H H the Amir. He stressed the importance of national unity and cooperation among all those living in Qatar to sustain the country’s development and safeguard its security and stability.

“There will be challenges along the way, but we will stand with our government, our country, H H the Amir, the Qatari people and residents of Qatar to continue developing this country and preserving security and safety in Qatar,” said Al-Mohannadi.

He also highlighted Qatar’s commitment to pursuing reconciliation and peaceful solutions at the regional and international levels, saying such efforts were essential to making the world safer.

Member of the Shura Council H E Dr Muna bint Abdulrahman bin Sinan Al-Muslemani, described the opening of the new session as the beginning of another chapter in Qatar’s national service and development journey.

She said the Amir’s address provided a framework for the Council’s work during the coming period, guiding its legislative and oversight responsibilities in line with national priorities and Qatar National Vision 2030.

“With great pride, we open a new chapter in the journey of national service with the inauguration by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of the second ordinary session of the second legislative term of the Shura Council, in its 55th annual session,” Al-Muslemani said.

She noted that the Council would continue examining legislation and issues of national importance, strengthening cooperation and integration with the government, and supporting comprehensive development. Al-Muslemani added that the Shura Council embodied Qatar’s established consultative approach and remained committed to placing the needs and aspirations of society at the forefront of its work.

She said the Council would build on its legislative and oversight achievements to safeguard national gains and consolidate the progress and prosperity the country continues to experience.

Member of the Shura Council H E Amina bint Youssef Al-Jaidah, said the Amir’s address covered the country’s political and economic affairs and underscored the importance of investing in people as the foundation of society’s development.

“The Amir addressed all aspects of the country, whether political or economic, and also made clear that the real investment must be in people, as they are the ones who will build this society,” said Al-Jaidah.

She stressed that advancing society required concerted efforts by all state institutions, both public and private, and highlighted the resilience demonstrated by the Qatari people under the Amir’s leadership in confronting challenges.

“What caught our attention was the resilience of the Qatari people and our steadfastness under the leadership of H H the Amir in the face of challenges,” she said. Al-Jaidah also highlighted the importance of maintaining essential public services despite difficult circumstances, alongside investing in people and strengthening solidarity across society.
