DOHA: Many citizens expressed their happiness on local social networking sites yesterday, welcoming the FIFA report clearing Qatar of corruption charges in the 2022 World Cup bid process.
“We know very well that Qatar is innocent and it has nothing to do with the allegation made by jealous people,” said a comment posted on a social networking site.
“It is a day of joy for Qatar given by the final report exonerating it from all allegations. It was a clear conspiracy hatched against it. Qatar is above all attempts made to malign its image. Qatar always moves in right direction, no one can derail it from right path. It does not care what jealous people are doing against it,” said another commentator.
“Thousands of greetings for the second time to our wise leadership and Qatari people. Go ahead, The Great Nation (Qatar)”, said a post.
“To tell the truth, I was surprised to know the allegation. We won the bid to host FIFA World Cup properly, then why such problem was created? God save us from their mischievous acts,” reacted another commemorator.
“I think there is no surprise for most Qataris because they believe that Qatar deserves and won the bid properly. Credit goes to the organising committee who did not leave any stone unturned to win the bid for hosting the event,” another commentator said.
“Qatar should file a case against the people who pointed finger at Qatar so no one can dare to make false allegations against us,” demanded another commentator.
Alex Garina, a Filipino working in the construction sector, said he was happy with the development as it could expedite implementation of the new sponsorship system, which is being awaited by many expatriate workers.
“Qatar hosting the World Cup would also mean more jobs, and I’m excited to witness the rare event which would be happening here in eight years’ time,” he said.
Another Filipino expatriate, however, said he had doubts whether Qatar could deliver despite its financial capability, as he felt eight years was too short a time to complete all the World Cup-related projects.
“I think it doesn’t have enough time to finish all the big projects although it has the money. Nevertheless, I’m glad that Qatar has been cleared by FIFA so that they can now push through with all these projects,” he said.
