DOHA: The British Embassy in Doha celebrated His Majesty King Charles III’s birthday yesterday, reflecting the friendship and enduring cooperation between Qatar and the UK.
The event also offered guests a taste of British culture and a true feel of London, bringing the charm of the UK’s capital to Doha.
The ceremony saw the participation of distinguished dignitaries including Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, and Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro.
The Embassy also hosted several distinguished guests, including members of the Diplomatic Corps, as well as representatives of the local and British communities in Doha. Addressing the gathering, British Ambassador H E Neerav Patel lauded the essential role of Qatar in international diplomacy and global development under the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and highlighted the great depth of cooperation with the UK across every area including defenCe, trade and culture.
He emphasised the depth of the UK-Qatar relationship and the importance of people-to-people ties, saying, “People-to-people connections are the beating heart of our relationship. Through our work, friendships, creativity and commitment, we all help make this relationship thrive. We are proud of the living bridge between our countries.” Guests were also treated with an authentic taste of British culture, traditions, and heritage during the reception.
The celebrations were held at the British Embassy under the theme “From Tube to Tower”, highlighting iconic London landmarks.
The setup featured a recreation of Carnaby Street, one of the city’s most emblematic historic streets as well as a replica of Parliament Square complete with a red telephone box and Big Ben. The Abbey Road installation was a special treat for British pop music fans, showcasing the iconic symbols of The Beatles and Abbey Road Studios.
