DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning said yesterday that it has prepared a feasibility study for bus rapid transit project, and a draft strategy for labour accommodation, design guidelines and regulatory standards.
In a statement issued ahead of the National Day on its achievements over the past year, the Ministry said it is currently preparing a national heritage strategy in collaboration with Qatar Museums.
The Ministry initiated a new national system of land use and zoning requirements and regulations, and prepared updated maps and identified the requirements of areas by the municipalities.
Within the framework of the comprehensive urban plan, the Ministry updated national development framework in light of new statistics and the census outcome. Moreover, it prepared a draft assessment of population growth scenario and another draft appraisal of alternative decentralised distribution of population.
The Ministry also expanded the database of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to include information related to 2022 Qatar world cup and Qatar Rail as well as the 2010 census outcome. It also offered GIS data viewer that enables departments to view data such as incident infrastructure.
In urban planning, the Ministry accomplished several projects and studies including a land zoning project (future and approved projects), a study on developing government parking in areas in Doha city, and approval of land use plan and regulatory list for Nejada area, as well as approval of first and second phases of commercial sites and regulatory list for Al Furjan markets inside residential areas.
Last fiscal year, the ministry approved the allocation of 5,540 plots of land and completed 4,663 plots of land designated for projects as well as 4,780 plots of land for the implementation of projects for health and education sector and Woqod stations.
