DOHA: The Traffic Department revoked 100 drivers’ licences during 2014 for serious violations of the traffic law, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.
The licences have been cancelled permanently after an evaluation of the traffic accidents in the country. A driver working with a leading company in Qatar also faced similar action recently.
Citing a report tabled by the services committee of the CMC at its weekly session on Tuesday, the daily said drivers involving in serious violations of the traffic law could face severe punishments, including cancellation of the licence and impounding of vehicles.
The report also noted that violations of the law have declined significantly due to intensive monitoring by the Traffic Department.
Traffic patrolling teams have been deployed at 18 signal-controlled intersections while 50 teams are monitoring roundabouts and other parts of the city, said the daily.
The session discussed traffic-related issues and came out with recommendations to reduce accidents.
