Doha: Some localities of Umm Al Amad, Old Al Sailiya and Muaithir Al-Wakra have been witnessing waterlogging due to the flow of groundwater to the surface.
Arabic daily Al-Sharq reported that in Muaithir Al Wakra, due to the flow of water over the years a small lake has formed with plants grown around it and has become a breeding ground for insects.
The citizens in the area told the daily that the plants that grew on the shore of the lake acted as a barrier that prevented water from reaching the streets, but now as the flow has increased, the water has reached the streets and nearby houses.
They added that despite authorities sending tankers for water removal, the basic issue still lingers on.
Residents of 14 homes in Umm Al Amad also complained about the continuous flow of groundwater to surface for the fourth month in a row, causing the problem to exacerbate as streets surrounding the houses are filled with stagnant water. The authorities send a water tanker to remove water, but after a short time, the water returns to the surface. The residents urged the competent authorities for a permanent solution to the problem.
The Abu Sulaiman Mosque at Old Al Sailiya is surrounded by water from its all four sides and this has prevented people from praying in the mosque for the third week in a row, Al Sharq reported.
Here also water tanker was pressed into use but the water flow is stronger than the suction operations.
