TOKYO: Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says Japan will commit roughly $40 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority.
Abe made the promise when he met here with the Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who is in Japan to attend an international conference on economic assistance to the Palestinian Authority, NHK World reported.
Abe said he hopes for a swift resumption of peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel. He also said that his administration will contribute to the peace process.
Fayyad said he is thankful to Japan for the aid and support at the United Nations. He added that despite various issues with Israel, the Palestinian Authority aims to achieve peaceful coexistence through direct talks. (QNA)
