8 wounded in bus attack in Philippines

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines: Eight passengers were wounded when suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen shot at a bus on the outskirts of Zamboanga city late Tuesday night.

RMN NEWS radio reported Wednesday morning that the bus was on the highway near the village of Muti when it came under attack at around 11 p.m. (1500GMT) .

Those wounded, including a woman, were taken to the Zanboanga City Medical Center for treatment. 

 About 30 kilometers east of downtown Zamboanga City, Muti is a notorious Abu Sayyaf haven where several road attacks and ambushes have been recorded in recent months.

The village is populated by Muslim settlers from nearby Basilan island, a bastion of of the Daesh-linked Abu Sayyaf group.
