'Sports build healthy community'

Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change yesterday held several sporting events and fitness activities, on the occasion of the National Sport Day, at Qatar Shooting & Archery Association (QSAS) in Lusail.

The event was attended by Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed Al Thani and other officials of the Ministry.

Many sports activities such as walking and shooting with rifles, pistols and bows, as well as a football match were held. This is in addition to a number of activities for children that encourage exercise, and raise awareness of the importance of physical fitness and its impact among youngsters.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change honoured a number of participants in sporting events and winners of some competitions that were organized during National Sport Day.

The Minister stressed the importance of sport in the lives of societies and individuals because it plays important role in building nations and the civilization of countries.

He noted that strong, developed countries must possess healthy human elements, which makes them able to give and contribute to advancing development and implementing the vision in achieving development in all areas.

“The wise leadership of Qatar was keen to dedicate a day for sports every year, realising the importance of the role of the human element in the development process.”

He said that people of this country gave great importance and interest in all directions, and worked to harness all the capabilities of the state to improve their health, education and raise their skills.

The Minister said that preserving the environment was a priority for the lofty vision, as it is an essential pillar within the pillars of building the nation and the citizen.

The Minister said that ministry is keen to activate eco-tourism in the country, due to the country’s large tourism potentials such as sand dunes, mangrove forests, mangroves and coasts.

“The ministry has worked to provide many of those places with sports infrastructure, including a sports walkway and support for boating and rowing.”

He said that there are development plans for some places such as Al Thakhira, Bin Ghannam, Sikrit, Sealine and Al Reem Island, calling on the public to visit those places and enjoy the country’s distinct tourism potential.

The Minsiter said that Qatar has been keen to ensure that the environment to be major part of its plans and vision towards development, and has worked to issue many legislations and laws that care about the Qatari environment and preserve it.
