DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is transforming continuing education for its nurses and midwives, providing patients and their families with the safest, most effective and most compassionate care.
Last year, HMC became the first healthcare organisation in the GCC to be recognised by American Nursing Credentialing Center as a provider unit of high quality continuing nursing education.
Building on that success, a platform of foundation programmes are under development; the suite of continuing nursing education programmes will ensure all HMC nurses and midwives practise the same high standards across the full range of medical specialities.
“One of the first of these programmes is Essential Midwifery Skills training,” said Maureen Brown, Assistant Executive Director, Midwifery Education,  Women’s Hospital.
“We initiated the programme last August to continue to build on skills of our nurses and midwives who provide care for women in Qatar during pregnancy, labour, birth and the post-natal period.
“The focus of the evidence-based programme was communication and developing practice using educational methods and tools.”
Haila Salim, Assistant Executive Director, Nursing,  Women’s Hospital, expressed support for the programme and underscored the importance of developing the role of nurse-midwives in Qatar.
Professor Ann-Marie Cannaby, Chief Nursing Officer, HMC, delivered the welcome address at a ceremony at HMC’s Hotel and Club to celebrate the successful completion of the programme by its first batch of participants.
