New Delhi: Eight people were injured when a passenger train derailed in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India on Saturday.
Eight coaches of the Rajyarani Express train derailed near Rampur station, Indian Railways spokesman Neeraj Sharma said. He said two persons suffered serious injuries but there were no fatalities.
Medical teams and senior officials were at the site, Sharma said. An alternative track was being used to divert trains and there were some delays, Sharma added.
The train was travelling from Meerut, a town in Uttar Pradesh to the state capital Lucknow.
The derailment is the latest in a string of similar accidents in the region.
In March, 50 people were injured when a passenger train derailed in Uttar Pradesh and in December 40 were injured in another derailment near Kanpur.
