Dr Mary Boyd
DOHA: Dr Mary Boyd, a nursing executive, has joined Sidra Medical and Research Center as Chief Nursing and Allied Health Officer. Dr Boyd will establish the vision for patient care and service delivery and provide leadership in the achievement of a variety of key Sidra initiatives.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer Dr William F Owen, Jr MD, FACP, her primary areas of responsibility will include coordination and direction of nursing and allied health education and professional practice, evidence-based care, infection control, and management of clinical resources, such as staffing and scheduling and IV services.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr Owen said: “Dr Boyd is widely recognised as one of the foremost nurse executives of her generation in Ireland, and we are delighted she will be bringing her considerable experience to bear at Sidra.”
“She has a proven track record in establishing quality of service for patients and bringing clinical governance to the highest standard using evidence-based international accreditation systems. We believe these established capabilities make her the right person to oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures that will help distinguish Sidra as a world-class institution,” added Owen.
Sidra’s all-digital facility will maximise the time healthcare professionals spend caring for patients. The staffing structure will allow for 2.5 staff for each patient, including a 1:2 nurse to patient ratio.
A member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Sidra aims to lead the way in establishing best-practice patient care in Qatar.
Sidra is based on an American care model and is seeking to staff the hospital with approximately 2,000 nurses, including paediatric, obstetric/gynaecology, NICU, and operating room nurses.
Speaking about her new role, Dr Boyd said: “I am privileged to be joining the world-class team at Sidra at such a pivotal time for the organisation, and I passionately believe in Sidra’s vision of creating a medical environment in which the needs of the patient come first.”
