Dehradun: A total of 700 cadets passed out from Indian Military Academy (IMA) here yesterday. Of them, 636 joined the Indian Army while the remaining were foreign cadets, an official said.
The foreign cadets were from Bhutan, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea and Afghanistan. After the passing out parade, the 636 cadets got their lieutenant’s pips.
The IMA has trained 55,000 officers in its 81 years of existence.
The largest number of new officers come from Uttar Pradesh (121) followed by Haryana (62) and Uttarakhand (57).
The Sword of Honour was awarded to Vishnu Pitambaran of Kerala.
Nepal army chief General Gaurav Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana was present at the passing out parade along with IMA Commandant Lt-General Manvendra Shah and army training command chief Lt-General Sanjeev Mandok.
