Le Bourget, France--US-based GE Capital Aviation has ordered 60 A320neo planes in a deal worth $6.37 billion according to catalogue prices, European aircraft maker Airbus announced Monday on the first day of the Paris Air Show.

The 60 planes will be equipped with new-generation Leap engines built by CFM International, a joint venture of General Electric and Safran, Airbus said.

The A320neo will initially enter into service this year with Pratt & Whitney engines before being fitted with the Leap version in 2017.

GE Capital Aviation's latest order brings to 465 the number of A320 planes it has ordered from Airbus.

The Leap engine has also been developed for Boeing's 737 MAX family of planes.
