New York: The State of Qatar chaired the side event organised by the Social Development Sector of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, under the title “Continuing the Implementation of CRPD: Towards Flexible National and Regional Policies and Strategies to Overcome Challenges”.
The event was organised on the sidelines of the 16th session of the Conference of the States Parties (COSP) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), currently in session at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Opening the event, Minister of Social Development and Family H E Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, who is the Chairperson of the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, underlined that the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, has placed the category of people with disabilities at the top of its priorities, as a cherished group that deserves every effort to enhance their capabilities and their inherent right to a free, dignified, independent and creative life.
In her speech, the Minister called on all Arab countries to strengthen joint action and urged concerted efforts to ensure a decent life for all who belong to this group in the Arab societies.
The side event was held in implementation of the decisions of the 42nd meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, which was held in Doha in January. During the meeting, Their Excellencies the ministers discussed national and regional policies and strategies, and ways to overcome challenges to implement the Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities 2023-2032, and the Arab classification of persons with disabilities.
