DOHA: The Qatar University, taking a step forward in its research collaborations with international institutions, yesterday signed an agreement with the US-based Research Triangle Institute.
The Memorandum of Understanding will allow both institutions to conduct research, exchange of experts and technology. Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derhm, Vice President for Research, Qatar University and Tim J Gabel, Vice-President, Research Triangle Institute signed the five-year agreement to enhance research work.
“We are expanding our research collaborations with major international institutions. This agreement has been signed as part of this initiative,” said Dr Al Derhm at an event held at the Qatar University to mark the collaboration.
Qatar University community to encourage, promote, and facilitate research activities has collaboration with over 100 institutions around the world in North America, Far East Asia and Europe.
“As the Research Triangle Institute is involved with comprehensive range of research, we will be mostly looking for collaboration in environment, economic, social policy and behaviour science,” said Dr Al Derhm. “Within five years of the memorandum of understanding experts at the Research Triangle Institute will work with local academics. Also our experts will travel to US and work in collaboration with experts there,” he explained.
For more than 50 years Research Triangle Institute has provided government and private sector clients with independent, objective research, development and technical services. It’s a non profitable research organisation dedicated to improving human condition. Founded in 1958 the institute has staff of more than 2,800 supports projects in more than 400 countries.
It has a close working relationship with some of the world’s leading research universities including Columbia, Harvard, John Hopkins, Yale, the University of Michigan and other three founding universities –Duke, North Carolina State and the University of Carolina.
