DOHA: About 63 violations of the consumer protection law were registered by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce during routine inspections of the market last month.
The violations ranged from failure to declare the prices, increasing prices without approval from authorities or charging more than the declared prices.
There were 12 violations of not declaring the prices of items, nine of not declaring the prices in Arabic, seven of increasing prices without authorisation, and seven offences with regard to charging prices higher than those mentioned on the products and five violations of providing false descriptions of products.
The erring outlets were fined for shut temporarily, said the ministry.
The ministry has warned that it was intensifying inspections to ensure consumer protection and all violations would be dealt with according to the law.
It urged consumers to report any violations and irregularities found in the market to the Consumer Protection Department.
