DOHA: The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) yesterday said patients might experience temporary delays in appointments at the Omar Bin Khatab health centre as preparations for implementation of Clinical Information System (CIS) starts on Thursday.
Appointments could also get rescheduled at the health centre.
CIS, which includes a new electronic system for patients’ medical records to be viewed by physicians across every healthcare facility, was introduced in April in Al Daayen health centre and Al Khor hospital, and later in Al Gharafa health centre.
It is meant to improve the quality of healthcare, registration and appointments procedures, ensure recording of patients’ medication details, provide patients with medical information in all PHCC and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) facilities, and prevent loss of any medical record.
Health records, patient registration and appointments, radiology and pharmacy records will be entered into the system.
The system is to be implemented at all hospital and primary heathcare centres as well as  Ambulance Service and Sidra Medical and Research Centre by 2016.
Once CIS is fully implemented, Qatar will become the second country in the world to have a single, integrated electronic health record for every patient. Only Estonia has such a system. CIS will provide a standardised build, allowing a common view for clinicians and extensive analysis capability. This will support the academic health system vision of both healthcare providers in the country. The Peninsula
