DOHA: Vodafone Qatar has been named ‘Exclusive Sponsor’ of Qatar’s first National Identity seminar, taking place on October 20-21.

The seminar is organised by Qatar Heritage and Identity Centre, under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

It will take place at Al Sharq Village & Spa between 9am and 11am and will see top speakers from Qatar and abroad discussing topics pertaining to the significance of conserving a country’s national identity.

National identity is a core element of any community, and increasingly important as societies respond to globalisation and the Internet age.

It has become imperative to shed more light on values embodied in the Qatari national identity, and more broadly, traditions represented by the Arab identity.

Mohammed Al Yami, Director, External Affairs, Vodafone Qatar, said: “We realise the importance of our Qatari identity and its unique heritage, and aim through this sponsorship to help preserve and promote its values and principles. Vodafone Qatar’s support for everything Qatari has been a central part of our mission since we were founded.”

The seminar will tackle subjects such as the Qatari identity as a priority within Qatar National Vision 2030; family and identity; demographical effect on identity and the role of population dynamics; and the media’s take on identity.

It will showcase successful case studies on the preservation of national identity from Japan and Oman.

The Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H E Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem Al Nabit will open the seminar with a key note speech on national identity in light of Qatar National Vision 2030. The Peninsula
