Sarajevo: Bosnia's Islamic spiritual leader on Saturday urged Europe's Muslims to keep the peace following the Paris attacks, saying the perpetrators represented neither their religion nor their community.

"This is not only a severe moral fall that can by no means be justified, but also a sin towards God," Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic said in a statement, expressing "deepest bitterness" over the attacks on the French capital that left 129 dead.

"I especially urge Muslims in Europe to keep the peace and remain calm," he said.

"Terrorists represent neither your religion nor our community," Kavazovic said, adding that "terrorism cannot be justified either morally, religiously or politically".

Muslims make up about 40 percent of Bosnia's 3.8 million people while the rest of the Balkan country's population is mostly Orthodox Serb or Catholic.

The vast majority of Bosnian Muslims are moderates but a tiny minority openly supports radical Wahhabism.

Earlier this month a Bosnian imam was jailed for encouraging his followers to fight alongside jihadists in Syria and Iraq.
