DOHA: Katara’s month-long relief campaign for Syrian refugees has collected 11 containers of clothing, blankets, children’s toys and mattresses.
The 6m x 2.5m x 2.4m containers have 1,090 mattresses, 3,370 blankets and 97 cartons of clothes for women and children and toys, according to Salman Al Nuaimi, Vice-Chairman, Katara’s Relief Campaign Committee.
“We hope the campaign will alleviate the plight of our brothers in the refugee camps,” Al Nuaimi told a press conference at Katara yesterday.
The campaign has also seen significant participation from Qatari youth who volunteered to drive trucks across the country.
Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara, said, “Cultural Village Foundation — Katara has always been in a leading position to bridge the gap among people through multicultural exchanges between nations of different cultural, social and artistic backgrounds to stress the importance of human value as an essential life foundation.”
Katara has extended the campaign to accept donations from across Qatar.
Earlier, it allocated 10 containers for aid for the Syrian people, but added another container to accept aid from donors to further meet the refugees’ needs.
