DOHA: Colene Daniel (pictured), Deputy Chief, Tertiary Hospital Group, and CEO, Hamad General Hospital (HGH), has been presented with the prestigious GB Group Global Leadership Award for Corporate Leadership.
The award recognises her 30-year commitment to deliver high quality healthcare in Qatar and internationally and was presented at a high-profile event in Washington, DC last week.
Other recipients of awards included US President Barak Obama’s grandmother Sarah Obama; President Dr Joyce Banda, the first female president of Malawi’ Ambassador Amina Salum Ali, Head, African Union; and businesswoman Isabel Dos Santos.
GB Global Group was founded by author and academic Dr Gloria Bozeman Herndon to promote women’s leadership in the African American community and the African diaspora.
It raises funds to support social giving-back programmes in healthcare, education and development.
“It is with great honour that I accept the award. When you are committed to excellence, it doesn’t matter where you are in the world. The award represents the beliefs and commitment to inspire all current and future leaders across the globe. I am so honoured to be one of those to be recognised,” Daniel said.
The award coincided with International Women’s Day.
“Working at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and HGH has enabled me to share my experiences and learn from others.
“I thank Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, Managing Director, HMC, for support and commitment to deliver the safest, most effective and most compassionate care to each and every one of our patients,” she added.
