DOHA: Various directorates and departments of Qatar Petroleum (QP) are presenting a wide range of environmental programmes and initiatives at the QP Environment Fair 2013, which concludes today at the Doha Exhibition Center.
Apart from the Public Relations and Communications Department, which is the main organiser of the event, the participants from QP include the Corporate HSE Department, Dukhan Operations, Gas Operations, the HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate, Offshore Operations, QP Industrial Cities, and the QP Refinery.
In line with their participation in QPEF 2013, the seven QP directorates and departments are exhibiting the various projects and other measures they implement to protect the environment. Some QP exhibition stands also showcase a wide range of activities that are designed to raise the environmental awareness of visitors to the event.
For instance, QP Refinery, which is based in Mesaieed Industrial City, is introducing to the public its oil separation process and is encouraging visitors to draw anything related to environment protection.
The HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate, on the other hand, is showcasing its Sustainable Development Industry Reporting programme as well as its climate change video, which highlights the oil and gas sector’s commitment to addressing greenhouse gas emissions.
From its part, the Corporate HSE Department is raising awareness on mercury pollution and its harmful impact on human health and the environment.
QP Industrial Cities is showcasing its programmes and activities related to environmental monitoring, waste management, marine ecosystem assessment and environmental awareness, and it also has an Instagram contest for all visitors to its stand.
QP Gas Operations is highlighting its various environmental projects, including its Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems, Acid Gas Removal Revamp Project, Sulphur Recovery Unit Upgrade Project and Flare Mitigation Project.
Offshore Operations, meanwhile, is presenting its artificial coral reef project and wildlife conservation programme on Halul Island. Dukhan Operations is likewise showcasing its environmental projects, especially its dugong protection programme.
Entry to the environment fair is free to the public from 8am to 8pm.
THE PENINSULA
