DOHA: Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture has appointed Hamad Al Eida (pictured), and Aisha Ghanem Al Attiya as its official spokespersons in Qatar. Al Eida and Al Attiya, who each have extensive backgrounds in cultural and social affairs and media and communications, will act as the cultural exchange programme’s voice to the public.
Beginning his career in 1995 as a presenter and producer at Qatar TV, Al Eida contributed to the organisation of many cultural and social activities throughout the country, including summer festivals.
He has also hosted various programmes on Al Rayyan TV. Since 2006, Hamad has worked with the Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) in the office of His Excellency Sheikh Hassan Bin Mohammed Al Thani, assisting him with his endeavours and trips around the world.
Al Attiya, a graduate of Qatar University, joined QMA’s Office of Strategic Cultural Relations in 2012 as a Senior Cultural Diplomacy project specialist. Under the supervision of the Director of Office of Strategic Cultural Relations, Al Attiya supports the Qatar UK 2013 programme with the mission to develop mutual understanding of cultures between Qatar and the UK. Al Attiya is also involved in volunteering with Reach out to Asia (Rota), where she has been developing and executing activities to provide psychological support for patients at Al Rumala hospital.
Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture, sponsored by Qatargas, Shell and Vodafone Qatar, builds on the legacy of rich cooperation between Qatar and the United Kingdom. Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) and the British Council are developing a programme consisting of over 70 events and exchanges which educate and entertain people through a wide range of activities in Art and Design, Sport, Film and Media, Performing Arts, Community Building, Science and Research and Education.
