DOHA: Two building projects of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), backed by Social and Sports Activities Support Fund (Daam), were launched yesterday.
The two projects, the CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System unit and the expansion of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2015.
The ceremony was held at the site of the CyberKnife unit, which is adjacent to the National Centre  for Cancer Care and Research’s (NCCCR) PET-CT Center, and was presided over by HMC Managing Director Dr Hanan Al Kuwari and Daam President Sheikh Abdulla bin Saoud Al Thani.
The CyberKnife unit will deliver improved radio surgery practice through the use of the CyberKnife Robotic Radio surgery System, which is the world’s only robotic radio surgery technique designed to treat tumours non-invasively anywhere in the body.
“The addition of the CyberKnife system will be a definite advance for our radiation oncology treatment program. It will provide an excellent additional treatment option for our patients and consolidates further HMC’s mandate of providing world-class state-of-the-art cancer care to the people of Qatar,” said Dr Noora Al Hammadi, Chair of Department of Radiation Oncology at NCCCR.
Neonatal Intensive Care Director Dr Hilal Al Rifai, said the purpose built state-of-the-art NICU unit expansion is designed to meet the best international standards for environmental safety and best practice.
