Doha: Qatar Airways’ (QA)Nationalisation Department welcomed 50 new undergraduates into its internship programme for the 2014 summer session, the carrier said in a statement yesterday.
The students, specialising in 23 majors, will spend next few months with the airline, gaining important first-hand experience in the day-to-day operations across the company.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO, said such internship programmes have been successful in the past and were conducted regularly to provide valuable experience to students.
“The airline is highly supportive of learning and development programmes and as the national airline, we take every necessary step to nurture Qatari talent to help them build successful careers in aviation.
“Students who intern with us gain valuable insights into business functions that make QA the world-class organisation it is today. When they return to work for us after completing studies, they are already familiar with QA and its strong work ethic.”
QA offers a customised training programme that suits each intern, with interns being placed in departments, such as marketing, commercial, product development, engineering, finance, sales, technical services, customer experience, cabin services and information technology. Every intern has dedicated coach and mentor.
“Qatarisation is a priority for us and we wish to demonstrate this in the programmes we have developed for our future Qatari employees. We provide nine programmes, support 23 majors, and offer training opportunities with Boeing, Airbus and Rolls Royce, so, no matter what your background is, we are the kind of organisation that can support you to move on to bigger and better things,” said Dr Kholode Al Obaidli, Vice-President, Nationalisation.
“We welcome interns for the summer term as the initiative supports their growth towards professional positions and gives our company people that come in with interesting, fresh ideas. Participating in this activity reflects our common value to help communities and future generations grow,” said Dominique Giannoni, CEO, Thales In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity.
Students are tasked with an assigned project which they must execute from beginning to end, working with coaches.
Upon completion of the project, interns present their project framework, implementation and findings to their department and the QA Nationalisation Programme team for evaluation.
Upon graduation, students will join a 24-month rotation programme to explore their options within QA before choosing the field in which they wish to develop their careers.
