DOHA: Young Qatari entrepreneurs would soon have another home — a small model Industrial City (Qatar Business Nursery) in the Industrial Area, a senior official has said.
The nursery will be on an area of 20,000sqm and accommodate about 16 warehouses benefiting about 75 establishments, with a plan to expand further, Munther Al Dawood, Director, Development Projects and Investment, Social Development Centre, told Al Raya newspaper.
It will provide support to young entrepreneurs and promote their business skills through seminars, conferences and networking.
The project is called nursery because it will introduce young people to the world of entrepreneurship the way nursery schools introduce education to children.
After a three-year programme, Qataris will gain skills to enter the world of business.
“We have accepted applications of 37 Qataris to work in the nursery in March and they have been put into an enrolment program.
“The management will receive further applications in September,” said Al Dawood.
He said they had started moving staff to the industrial site in preparation for the official launch.
About 50 percent of beneficiaries from the project will be young Qatari women working on women-related businesses like making perfumes and ladies clothes such as abayas, among others, said Al Dawood.
He said the nursery started temporarily in a building owned by Qatar Development Bank in 2011 and has been experimenting the viability of the project and now it is relocating to a permanent home.
He said they aimed at transforming the system of entrepreneurship and helping small businesses of young Qatari entrepreneurs expand and grow.
Among businesses that have benefited is Sheikha Haya Sewing factory which is producing 60,000 pieces of garments each year
Since its foundation 14 years ago, the centre has been providing opportunities for young Qataris business people to improve skills and deal with business-related problems.
Al Dawood said they would also organise an exhibition to showcase works of young entrepreneurs on October 29.
