DOHA: A warehouse attached to Khalid Cement Industries Complex in Industrial Area (Street No. 41) was badly destroyed in a huge fire yesterday morning. The Ministry of Interior said on its Twitter account at 11.35am that the fire was “completely controlled” but didn’t specify if anyone was injured. The cause was not known yesterday.
A Civil Defence team continued fire-fighting until late in the afternoon. Thick smoke could be seen billowing from the site for several hours. Police cordoned off the area, causing traffic jams on surrounding streets during peak hours. The fire was confined to the warehouse that stored materials and the neighbouring cement plant was not affected, according to witnesses.
