SINGAPORE: China is seeking about 850,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil from Iraq in 2014, the Middle Eastern nation's oil minister said on Wednesday.
China's annual term deal with Iraq is for 568,000 bpd this year, up from 525,000 bpd in 2012.
"Iraq is in a lucky position because we always get more requests than we can actually supply," deputy prime minister for energy Hussain Al-Shahristani said.
"So far we have about 850,000 bpd from Chinese companies and there would be more coming in."
Iraq has completed maintenance work at its southern oil terminals, and exports will return to 2.5-2.6 million bpd this month, he said on the sidelines of the World Energy Congress in South Korea. (Reuters)
