DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) held a visit of school students to its headquarters as part of National Day celebrations.
The initiative, ‘Ashghal in the eyes of our children’, welcomed a group of students from various age groups to the authority’s headquarters.
“This year we were keen to intensify participation of students from various age groups in National Day activities organised by Ashghal.
“We believe National Day is all about strengthening patriotism and spirit of belonging in the hearts of the new generation,” said Abdulla Saad Al Saad, Manager, Public Relations and Communications Department.
The initiative is part of the authority’s efforts to enhance its communication with youngsters who represent an essential segment of society, encourage their interests, and make them aware of their role in developing the country.
Ashghal has developed a programme for students, which includes briefing them on the Authority, its departments, specialisations, and core projects.
Students were welcomed by officials and engineers, who took them on tour of roads, buildings and drainage projects.
Engineers responsible for each area gave a detailed explanation through presentations on the nature and components of projects, latest achievements, and future projects.
The school visit also included a tour of Ashghal’s Heritage Village, set up for the first time this year.
It is a small model of an old Qatari village with diverse cultural elements.
It features a traditional market highlighting crafts, customs, occupations practiced on a daily basis in the past, presenting legacies left behind by our parents and grandparents.
“While planning the programme, we ensured to educate students on the Authority’s role and projects.
The initiative aims to show youngsters that there are ways to express love for their country.
One of the best ways is through hard work, contributing to and participating in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
“We hope the initiative will inspire the new generation to think about their future and encourage them to engage in the fields of engineering and construction to contribute to the country’s development,” Al Saad said.
Ashghal celebrates National Day every year with initiatives and activities inspired by the Qatari heritage and culture.
The programme aims to familiarise participants, especially youth, with traditions and customs, and strengthen their patriotism and spirit of belonging.
This year’s celebrations included initiatives and activities to introduce Ashghal employees, consultants and visitors to traditions.
They also include a new initiative, ‘Qatarna, Our Past and Present’ to create the largest album of images of Qatar’s past and present.
