QU Health student wins in first International Interprofessional Case Competition

Qatar University Health student won the first annual International Interprofessional Case Competition (I2C2). This was coordinated by Virginia Commonwealth University in USA and co-organised along with other five institutions including QU; Gulf Medical University and RAK Medical & Health Sciences University, both in UAE;and Washington State University and UT Health San Antonio, from USA.
QU participants include Dhabya Al Khater and Halima Saadia from QU-College of Pharmacy, Jawaher Baraka and Mohamed Tawengi from College of Medicine and Layan Sukik from the Human Nutrition at College of Health Sciences.  Saadia is part of the winning team for the competition along with Judit Elsa Don, from Gulf Medical University; Kelly Hancock, Virginia Commonwealth University; Emma Morgan, Washington State University; Keerthi Thallapureddy, UT Health San Antonio; and Zehdi Eydou, RAK Medical & Health Sciences University.
These students participated at the beginning of the semester and were placed in five teams with students from different courses and countries. They then received a complex clinical case at the beginning of October and had to work together to outline the best plan of care for this patient. QU-CPH Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and QU Health Chair of Interprofessional Education (IPE) program, Dr. Alla El Awaisi was part of the organising team and QU-CPH Section Head of Clinical Education, Dr Hazem Elewa meanwhile was one of the judges for the competition.  Dr. Elewa said: “It has been a pleasure to participate in this exciting IPE case competition which was held virtually early November 2021. The efforts done by all competing teams to solve and present the case and  the collaboration and communication among each team members were impressive. Whenever we see such spirit and attitude, it brings a lot of hope about the future of healthcare system”  
QU-CPH student Halima Saadia, part of the winning team said: “IPE is the future of the healthcare system, and I am motivated to be a part of that future. This competition promoted team mentality and patient-centered care. It was an amazing opportunity to work with other healthcare professional students from all over the world. We all learned a lot from each other.”
