Cabinet nod for forum on intellectual rights

Doha: Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani yesterday chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting and discussed amendments to Law No. 12 of 1972 on compulsory pricing and profits.

It follows a recommendation by the Advisory Council.

Employees at the authorised department at the Ministry of Business and Trade will be accorded the status of legal trustees or administrators under the proposed changes, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud said after the session at the Emiri Diwan.

The Cabinet gave a go-ahead to a regional symposium of Arab states on intellectual and sport property rights in Doha in the first half of next month.

It also approved a draft agreement with Guernsey on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of evasion of income tax.

The Cabinet ratified an agreement with Ukrain on exempting holders of diplomatic and special passports from entry visa. 

The session endorsed an Emiri draft decision regulating tendering process for military bodies with regard to purchases and contracting business.

It discussed a bill to amend provisions of the Decree Law No 14 of 1993 on passports and a letter from Minister of Social Affairs who is also Acting Minister of Labour, on results of the 11th meeting of GCC housing ministers in Riyadh last November.
