3 cops hurt in Shangla blast

SHANGLA: Three policemen, including a Station House Officer, were injured yesterday when a remote-controlled bomb struck their van in Shangla, DawnNews reported. Bisham police station’s van was patrolling the area when a loud remote-controlled explosion occurred as it reached Chakesar. They were shifted to a local hospital. Their condition was reported as out of danger. Police cordoned off the site and a search operation began went underway to apprehend those responsible. On January 12, senior PML-N leader Amir Muqam narrowly escaped when his convoy was hit by two powerful blasts which left five people, including three policemen, dead in Shangla. Law enforcement in Pakistan is carried out by several federal and provincial police agencies. The most senior officers of all civilian police forces also form part of the Police Service, which is a component of the civil service.
Pilot, co-pilot killed in crash
MANDI BAHAUDDIN: The pilot and co-pilot were killed as a training jet of a private company crashed near Mandi Bahauddin yesterday, Geo News reported. SHO Shafqat Butt confirmed the deaths and said the plane crashed in Qadirabad area.
New British envoy arrives
ISLAMABAD: Senior British diplomat Philip Barton arrived in Islamabad yesterday to take up his position as High Commissioner. Barton has replaced Sir Adam Thomson, who left last month after completing his three-year tenure. “The relationship between the UK and Pakistan remains deep and strong. I am committed to strengthening these connections during my time here, building on the excellent work of my predecessor Sir Adam Thomson,” Barton said. 
KP seeks delay in election 
ISLAMABAD: After the postponement of elections in Sindh and Punjab, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government is seeking delay in the polls in February. Local government polls in cantonments and Islamabad Capital Territory are also unlikely in the next few months since parliament has yet to approve local government laws for these areas. The KP government has told the election commission that it cannot hold polls in February since the delimitation of constituencies continues. AGENCIES
