SEC holds schools science award event

Minister of Education and Higher Education and the Secretary General of SEC H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi and  Chief Executive Officer of Oryx GTL Abdulrahman Al Suwaidi during the ceremony at St Regis Hotel.

Doha: The Supreme Education Council (SEC), organised an awards ceremony for National Schools Science Competition for the academic year 2014-2015 at St Regis Hotel. The Minister of Education and Higher Education and the Secretary General of SEC H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi was the chief guest.
Abdulrahman Al Suwaidi,  Chief Executive Officer of Oryx GTL, the official sponsor of the competition, honoured the winning schools and students. The awards programme included a film about the competition and speeches including Abdul Hadi Bakhit H Barqan, Chief Administrative Officer with Oryx GTL, who expressed his thanks and gratitude to the minister for his sincere efforts, the constructive cooperation and the positive partnership between Oryx GTL and the SEC. Hadi Bakhit H Barqan also commended the SEC for hosting the scientific competition which has been delivering excellent results and returns for students for the past three years.
Al Suwaidi praised the SEC for supporting projects that it will help Qatar achieve its goals for a knowledge -based economy and developing students that will be of great benefit in the future by serving the country and increase educational attainment.
Fauzia Abdulaziz Al Khater, Director of The Education Institute in the SEC, said: “We are pleased with the success of the third edition of the National Science Competition which aims to encourage students to study Science and increase research standards, which will help us achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030’.
She also thanked students and schools who participated in the competition, and also highlighted the tremendous success of the National Science Challenge since its beginning in 2013. Fauzia Abdulaziz Al Khater also thanked Oryx GTL for its cooperation and support.
Abdulhadi Brqan, Chief Administration Officer at Oryx  GTL, spoke of the company’s commitment to supporting education in all fields. He said that Oryx GTL believes that it is essential to invest in education to ensure the future success of the company and the future of Qatar. Fatima El Rashed, the Head of Science Section of curriculum standards office, said that over 400 students participated in the third edition of the competition from sixth, eighth and tenth grades. The Science Section of the Education Institute in the SEC organised and supervised the competition which included more than 15 practical experiments that were designed to test the participants’ skills in using laboratory instruments and their ability to analyse data, drawings and diagrams.
