Doha: As part of World Cancer Day, Aster DM Healthcare, the largest private healthcare provider in the State of Qatar has launched a one-month-long cancer awareness activities in Qatar under the slogan #IamAndIWill, the initiative comes in line with the message to combat cancer and reduce its impact on society by raising awareness about the importance of screening and early detection. The official launch of the campaign was held at Aster Hospital Doha on February 4, 2019.
Dr. Sameer Moopan, Chief Executive Officer, Aster DM Healthcare-Qatar has launched the campaign in the presence of Mohamed Shaban, a cancer survivor and sports enthusiastic in Qatar, Dr Raghu K Hiremagalur, Medical Director, Aster Hospital Qatar and other officials of Aster. The one-month-long activities will include cancer awareness sessions, flier distribution and mass pledge taking that will be held at Aster Hospital, Doha and all Aster Medical Centres spreads across Qatar.
The campaign, which started in the first week of February, has seen a participation of more than 800 people and over 600 people have taken a pledge to spread cancer awareness across Qatar.
The campaign is also aiming to conduct more cancer awareness activities in cooperation with associations, schools and corporates in the upcoming days.
World Cancer Day is observed every year on the 4th February as an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control, the largest and oldest international cancer organization dedicated to taking the lead in convening, capacity building and advocacy initiatives that unite the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, promote greater equity, and integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda.
This year’s World Cancer Day’s theme is #IamAndIwill. It is a three-year campaign that calls for personal commitment to reduce the impact of cancer on oneself, the people one love and the world at large.
Talking on the initiative, Dr. Sameer Moopan said, “We are very happy to conduct one month long awareness activity related to World Cancer Day as a part of our CSR venture, Aster Volunteers.
The purpose of the campaign is to help make the public more aware about cancer prevention and treatments.”
Mohamed Shaban spoke to the audience on how he overcomes cancer with will power, diet control and limited use of medicine. He pointed to the importance of keeping good health and diet control. He emphasized on the need for doing regular exercise, eating more vegetables and fruits and avoiding canned food and soft drinks.
