Nepal Embassy raises awareness on safe use of social media

Doha: The Embassy of Nepal organised an awareness programme on the use of social media in coordination with the National Coordinating Council of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, and Federation of Nepali Journalists, Qatar. 

The programme was presided over by Mohammad Muktada Musalman, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of Qatar, and the chief guest was Laxman Khanal, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Nepal in Qatar. 

The awareness programme has been conducted regarding the precautions to be taken by social media users. 

While addressing the programme, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nepal in Doha Lakshuman Khanal expressed appreciation for the Non-Residential Nepalis Association, Qatar and Federation of Nepali Journalists, Qatar for collaborating with the Embassy to organise this awareness initiative.

 He commented that as the number of community members using social sites is on the rise, they need to be careful about making utilisation of such sites rather than misusing them. 

They need to be mindful of the rules and regulations as well as local culture, tradition and norms so as not to jeopardise the peace and harmony among themselves as well as in the community and society in general. 

He pointed that many users are found to be sharing unauthorised visuals even without knowing that they are acting against the rules. 

Stressing that unwarranted use of social site might hamper the privacy of individuals as well as the safety, security and harmony of the society, he appealed all social site users to be responsible. 

He also requested the community members to follow the information only from the official government sites and not to share unverified information.

Mohammad Muktada Musalman urged Nepali workers not to forget the purpose for which they had come to Qatar.

He urged the people to use social media for entertainment in a way that respects or does not interfere with Qatar’s culture and traditions. 

Musalman urged  the participants to always be aware of the obligations of respecting the laws of the country in which they live. He said that the Non-Resident Nepali Association, National Coordinating Council Qatar would continue the awareness program in the coming days.

Karim Bakhs Miya, president of Qatar branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, informed about the recent misuse of social media and the legal issues that may arise due to it. 

Miya said most places in Qatar were not banned from taking photos or videos, but not all places are  declared public. He urged the people to be aware of the legal issues that could arise due to misuse of social media, even though they have the right to use it.
